Australia took a big step forward when 195 030 people, from 1038 venues across the nation, participated in The Giant Walk 2008.
To beat the Guinness World Record currently held by Canada, we had to have more than 231 365 people stepping across the nation at once. So unfortunately, Australia was unable to break the record.
We would like to congratulate and thank all walk coordinators and walkers who participated on the day. Our final figure was a fantastic feat!
There were participants in the walk from every state in the country; the national breakdown was:
- 98,246 Western Australian walkers
- 31,876 Queensland walkers
- 22,273 Victorian walkers
- 14,761 Tasmanian walkers
- 14,367 South Australian walkers
- 8377 New South Wales walkers
- 2705 Northern Territory walkers
- 2425 Australian Capital Territory walkers
